Examples of children's work - Autumn

DT Club

Design Technology enthusiasts have had the opportunity to attend an after school club. This year we learnt and practised a variety of new skills in several new projects. These included making wise salt dough owls, chomping peg monsters and some origami vampire bats for Halloween! The Y4s had enormous fun hammering designs into old tins to create beautiful colour changing night lights.

Nursery

Our Nursery provides exciting opportunities for children to start developing their DT skills in many creative ways. They have cooked every week making scrumptious snacks including bread roll pizzas, chocolate tiffin and repeat pattern fruity kebabs. In addition, they spent time using the play dough to produce wonderfully creative cooking. Plenty of rolling, shaping and modelling to make meals that Masterchef would be proud of!

Move over Mr Paul Holllywood – the next generation of bakers are here in the form of Me 2 Club’s Little Chefs! They have risen to the challenge of making a wide variety of seasonal bakes ranging from white chocolate snowballs, to heart biscuits to Rudolf cupcakes. Altogether delicious!

Reception

In Reception pupils have celebrated the Chinese New Year by crafting paper lanterns and hanging them around their classrooms. In addition they have made Chinese purses in accordance with the Chinses tradition of giving money to celebrate the New Year.

Year 1

Year 1 took on the huge responsibility for inventing a new snack for Santa as he had become rather tired of eating mince pies all the time. Using only his favourite ingredients, they were challenged with designing and making him a fabulous, nutritious snack. Luckily, Y1 rose to the challenge and a very satisfied Santa was able to fulfil all his duties on December 24th.

Year 2

After researching and interviewing their friends to find their likes and dislikes, Year 2 assembled delicious, nutritious wraps for each other. Each wrap held four specially selected ingredients to tickle the taste buds. They were then eaten and carefully evaluated to find if satisfaction had been achieved.

Year 3

Can you make a healthy pie? The Great Year 3 Pie Bake Off was a huge success this year although the whole year group agreed that pies are not the healthiest of meals. The winners (Kyle, Maya and Lena ) designed and baked a delicious but original pie which the judges scored highest for its appearance, flavour and healthiness ratings. Everyone enjoyed the process of baking but even more so the tasting of their final pie designs.

Year 4

The wonderful Y4 magic lantern night light project produced some delightfully creative designs. Pupils researched, designed, crafted and engineered their own lovely lanterns. Their final evaluations showed how successful their design work has been but also identified what they would like to do with future ideas for night lights.

Year 5

Year 5 relished their topic on bread and have sampled different types of bread enjoyed by cultures all over the world. They have studied the importance of yeast and even used it to conduct some scientific experiments too. In addition they have planned, baked and evaluated their own bread, as well as finding interesting ways of advertising their bread products to make them sound appealing to potential customers.

Year 6

Y6 celebrated Christmas with tasty Stained Glass biscuits. Utilising melted sweets to create the smooth and shiny but more importantly edible glass, combined with a biscuit dough they created a festive treat which everyone enjoyed both making and eating.
