A poem a week
This week we had a look at Michael Rosen's poem, 'Hands On'. Mr Grieve edited it slightly! Maybe the children could perform it at home!?
Hands On
Hands on the bridge feel the rhythm of the train,
Hands on your head feel the rhythm of your brain,
Hands on your throat feel the rhythm of your talk,
Hands on your legs feel the rhythm of your walk,
Hands on your chest feel the rhythm of your heart,
Hands on up high, the day’s about to start!
Reading Celebration Assembly
We had our new half-termly Reading Celebration Assembly. Lots of children had achieved their targets last half-term, winning tokens for their house. Star Readers were also chosen from each class to recognise children who have excelled in reading through reading at home and making great progress.
We also had a fantastic number of children reaching the next word count bands. Samuel, Thomas and Denis have also become our first ‘Word Millionaires’, having read an amazing 1,000,000 words already this year! Hopefully, we will soon have lots more!
Sedgwick came first in the house competition for the number of points their house had earned, whilst Fitzwilliam came top with the highest %. In KS1 the Caterpillars had read the most words together on Optima 500, having read a brilliant 6,265 words, although Frogs were not far behind at 6,127.
Children should be bringing their certificates home with them. They have all done a fantastic job at their reading this half-term – well done King’s Hedges!
Book Fair
Thank you very much for all your support during the book. We hope that you enjoy the many books that were purchased over the week. We are happy to report that as a school we have raised £408 for new books for the school! Well done everyone!
WritePath
"The children in year 6 have been contributing to WritePath: a story string within which 3 teams of boys and 3 teams of girls from local schools alternatively carry on writing a story over the course of a week! The outcome was to encourage boys' writing, by adding a competitive element and seeing if, under such circumstances, boys could create more imaginative plots and story narratives than girls. See what you think!"
