Shape, Space and Measure

At King’s Hedges Education Federation, we follow our own shape, space and measure curriculum from Nursery to Year 6 which covers the required content for that year group.

Shape, space and measure sessions are organised into a whole-class teaching session followed by an application of independent work based upon the whole-class teaching. Each full session lasts 30-40 minutes.

The taught sessions are based around our mathematics purple threads (appropriate to the year group) and teachers plan sessions based on the overviews. Overviews include the White Rose small steps and teachers adapt the resource to meet the needs of the pupils. The purple threads are as follows: measurement, geometry and statistics

Shape, space and measure is taught systematically through real life context and where possible, sessions will include practical activities.
